The Umatilla CSEPP program has wound down.   I started this blog, the Facebook page, two twitter accounts, and a Youtube channel in December, 2009, while in an CSEPP training program or ORISE.  It's now time to call them a success, mission accomplished.   I will cancel this account in a few days.

Ceremony to Mark End of Chemical Weapons Stockpile

The Umatilla Chemical Depot and Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility will hold a public ceremony to celebrate the End of UMCDF Chemical Demilitarization Operations and the Destruction of the UMCD Chemical Weapons Stockpile.

Focus Group Participants needed!

CSEPP will be conducting Focus Groups to discuss the effectiveness of emergency preparedness efforts. The focus groups will assist in developing community outreach efforts in other CSEPP communities. Final day for recycling Tone Alert Radios and Recirculating Air Filters is February 29th!

Since November, the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program has been accepting tone alert radios and recirculating air filters for recycling.   That program will end on February 29.

UMCD no longer a Chemical Weapons Convention storage site

The results of a Dec. 5 – 6 inspection by the Organization For The Prohibition Of Chemical Weapons and completion of all Treaty verification activities confirmed that no chemical weapons remain in storage at the Umatilla Chemical Depot and that the stockpile has been destroyed.

This inspection and preliminary findings report closes the facility as a Chemical Weapons Convention storage and demilitarization site well in advance of the April, 2012 International Treaty deadline.

Lieutenant Colonel Kris N. Perkins, U.S. Army Commander of the installation said, “This is another significant milestone achieved assuring the safety of future generations. This achievement is a direct result of dedication to the safe completion of this project by Team Umatilla Government and Contract employees and UMCD’s community partners”.
